I didn’t plan to step away from social media.
There was no dramatic exit, no final post saying “taking a break.”
I just quietly stopped.
It actually started in late 2023.
I made a conscious decision to leave Instagram and Facebook behind, focusing instead on LinkedIn.
Rather than doing three platforms badly, I thought I’d try doing one well.
For a while, it worked.
I was posting several times a week.
I had the time, and I enjoyed the rhythm.
But the truth is, I didn’t have much paid work on at the time, so it felt doable.
As my workload began to pick up, I realised something important: the way I was doing LinkedIn wasn’t sustainable if I wanted to do it myself.
And I did want to do it myself - for now, at least.
I also found myself slipping into habits that didn’t feel good.
Scrolling.
Checking metrics.
Looking for validation in the numbers.
It wasn’t healthy, and it was wasting precious time and mental energy.
So in spring 2024, I stopped completely.
No posting.
No checking.
No social media at all.
And honestly? It was a relief.
What the Break Taught Me
That break gave me breathing space - and perspective.
I was still working, still showing up for clients, still delivering value.
But I had taken myself out of the digital spotlight, and with that came some powerful lessons:
- You don’t need to be visible to be valuable.
- Your energy is not infinite - doing less doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong.
- Rest is part of the cycle - stepping back isn’t failure, it’s a form of wisdom.
I didn’t miss the pressure to post.
I did miss the connection.
But it felt good to wait until I was clear on how I wanted to come back.
How I’m Showing Up Now
Over the past few months, I’ve eased myself back in, gently.
It started with reconnecting.
Commenting.
Engaging in a way that felt human and meaningful.
And now, I’ve created a simple plan for posting on LinkedIn that works for me, my schedule, and my energy.
This isn’t about going viral.
It’s not about gaming the algorithm.
It’s about shining my light in a way that feels aligned - without draining myself in the process.
My plan is to experiment for six months.
See what feels good.
See what works.
Adjust as I go.
I’m treating it as a rhythm, not a rule.
A Nudge for You
If you’ve been questioning how (or whether) to show up online, you’re not alone.
If you’ve stepped back, changed direction, or need a reset, that’s not failure.
That’s self-awareness.
You don’t have to be everywhere to shine.
You just have to find a way that works for you - right now.
If you’re ready to reconnect with your own version of visibility - one that feels nourishing, not draining—my Reflect & Reset sessions are a great place to start.
No pressure.
No performance.
Just space to pause, realign, and step forward in a way that feels true.
However you choose to show up this month, let it be intentional.
Let it be yours.
Your light is still there - even if you’ve been holding it close.
